VSL Fazioli Player Surround to Stereo with EQ and key adjustments
With controller is this?
Yamaha N1X.
Are the wooden keys just cosmetic slips of wood on the side?
Pretty much. The keys do have a substantial feel to them while still feeling quick and agile.
OMG, what happened to your digital piano to resort to this? 🤣🤣🤣
That's what I feel like doing to my piano when my fingers won't do what I want them to. 🔨
Was that you, David? Really cool if it was. :)
I wish. That's actually Elvis Presley. His Aloha from Hawaii concert.
@@Comfort_One_Another Thank you, David.
That’s how must be done every piano demo
Hey David, really nice playing! What is this piece called?
Hi. It's called "Search Me, O God." My most recent recording of it can be found here. ua-cam.com/video/LlUquc1QPoY/v-deo.htmlsi=A-ruU9_nDUewAIyO
Hello, could you please share your main setting?
Hi, my preset for the F308 can be found in this video. ua-cam.com/video/GFlNtg2DSws/v-deo.htmlsi=MR4ZF9xmsZffQbgo It's the only preset I have kept. Everything else was just an experiment.
Hey David, if you still have this velocity curve, would you please share with us the velocty map file? Thanks!
Unfortunately, I don't. That curve was made for my N1X which I have since sold. I deleted all my N1X presets. Sorry. However, if you zoom in on it, you should be able to duplicate it.
This thing slaps
Great video! For great players, like yourself, everything you talk about is vastly important. For most of us players, I don't know if it makes that much difference. I would love to have a relatively nice small grand piano or even an upright Yamaha, but I know my purchase budget and Maintenace budget will never all it. Therefore the best keyboard/piano for me is the one I use. I doubt if I will ever outgrow the limitations of my keyboard. I am thinking of getting the SL NUMA GT. I watched the UA-cam video of the tour of the manufacturing facility in Italy and it impressed me. By far the most important thing is to get out of UA-cam and get on the keyboard, whichever one you have.
Yeah, I enjoyed watching the Studiologic tour as well. The Numa X GT doesn't get as much attention as Roland, Yamah, and Kawai, but it's a very capable stage piano. I've owned it for 6 months now and my appreciation for it has grown.
Thanks David for the great overview of both devices. I'm leaning towards the SL Numa GT,but haven't been able to find one to try in person. I've noticed Fatar key actions on the Nords and other midi controllers are fairly clunky and loud at the bottom of the key press. How would you say the Roland and SL Numa GT compare in that regard, volume off and just playing the keys? Thanks
I think I recall the TP400 being a bit louder action, but not noticeable when playing at a normal volume or with headphones on.
Thank you sir!
I think I'm going to get the FP-90x. The Numa sounds great in demos, but I hear they do have QA issues.
I haven't heard of the Numa Piano X GT have quality control issues. I know there was a firmware update that corrected some issue early on when it first came out. There have been several firmware updates since it came out that brought improvements.
Sounds great!
Praise the Lord, beautifully played and sung Brother.
Amen! 🙏
Hello how to make my own favorite list on my Numa X Piano? I need some video how to do that from scratch ?
I can't decide between Studiologic SL88 Grand (Similar to Numa) or Kawai VPC1, can you help me?
Unfortunately, I have not tried the SL88 or the VPC1. Ideally you can try before you buy. If not, then make sure whomever you purchase from has a return policy you are comfortable with.
I'm not interested in any numa instrument. And this video showed I'm on the right way Roland, yamaha has the best key actions. thanks!
It's a great thing to be satisfied in life. 👍
_Very_ interesting, insightful, and helpful review! I generally think of myself as preferring a heavier action, but I definitely prefer the TP-400Wes (of the Studiologic Numa X GT, _not_ to be confused with the TP-400 of various other offerings!) over at least the Roland PH4, Yamaha GHS, and Korg RH3. That said, I haven’t been able to try the Kawai RHIII of e.g the MP11 or Nord Grand(?) and would definitely find value in such a comparison! Now, _that_ said, the most useful thing in this video is the comparison with the actual Yamaha acoustic piano! I am blessed with three acoustic pianos and, interestingly, find that the newer the piano, the _heavier_ the action! In any case, I agree that whatever its technical deficits, the TP-400Wes is an absolutely _superb_ keybed, especially for the price! Cheers from a new subscriber!
bought VSL F308 at around 35% off....Fazioli really sounds very different....also have the VSL two Bosendorfer and Steinway concert grand....Fazioli is really a very big file almost at 1.90GB sample size with five mics...we have the same yamaha hybrid N1X but the VSL is installed on my Mac Mini and using an external speakers....i'm more on a bass picker so Imperial is probably my first choice than Fazioli
Please, let me know if the Numa GT has better keys than Kawai VPC1, I'm about to get one of this.
Hi. I wish I could tell you what action I prefer, but I never played a VPC1. Currently the VPC 1 is $500 more expensive than the Numa X Piano GT. The VPC 1 is only a controller with no internal sounds while the Numa has an entire library of sounds. I'll most likely try an VPC 2 if one is ever introduced, especially if they replace the old RM3II action with the newer Grand Feel Compact.
@@Comfort_One_Another I'm from Brasil. Here the VPC1 is less expensive, 16k vs 21k from numa. I have Numa X and I hate the sounds! And 4 of my keyboards keys are making weird noises.
@@pianobis777 Might be worth trying out the VPC1. Let me know your impressions if you end up getting it.
@@Comfort_One_Another Now i'm betwen from changing my Numa X for the GT or for the Korg GrandStage. Korg i'll expend less money, but I'm not sure about the keys.
What did you do? I am between VPC1 and SL88Grand
Hey David, I’m Nathan. We’ve talked a few times through comments on UA-cam (I have the N1X). The last time we commented back to each other, you told me the N1X was history. This is my question. I just got the VSL Steinway D and I’m noticing that I’m hearing both the stock Yamaha CFX mixed with the Steinway when I play, especially with my headphones. Did you run into this problem? If so how did you fix it? I looked at forums and there’s not really much info out there. Please help… TIA
Hi. You have to turn off Local Control (page 37 in your manual) and then you won't hear the internal sounds when you play. You'll only hear the VSL piano. To turn off Local Control it's Function + C6 (C before the highest C). Hope this helps.
@@Comfort_One_Another thank you so much! Really appreciate it. I’ll give it a try the next time I sit down at the 🎹
Great study. There were some findings I never thought about. Namely finger sustain. On the other side: I missed some information about pivot point length respectively the difference of downweight at the tip and the end of the key. And did I miss the information about Note-Off velocity being sent? Nevertheless: great work!
Hi. When I did this video I had not yet taken the Numa apart, so I was unable to determine the pivot length. Having taken it apart since this video, I can say that the PHA50 has a longer pivot length. How much longer, I don't know because I don't have the Roland anymore and I never thought to measure the key length when I had it apart. I don't recall if playing at the back of the keys on the Roland was noticeable easier. It might have been slightly. Both actions send note off velocities.
First of all, this is an extraordinary video. Incredible job you’ve done here. Really enjoyed watching the whole process. Bravo. Secondly, I have had my Numa X Piano GT for about 18 months now. Just a superb action. It’s not a keyboard without faults, but for $2,000, given the quality of action and sound flexibility, it feels like one of the best keyboards on the market for the money. With that said, I would love to have these improvements you’ve done to my action!
Very nice piano, i think the problem with that octave is nothing i can't handle, especially when it offers note by note adjustments Thanks for the video ❤
My all time favourites❤ thanks for sharing this beautiful peace
Interestiing I have a DGX-670 the the GHS action and the dual sensor hasn't bothered me.
The main difference I noticed is the longer reset distance on the dual sensor GHS action required to repeat a note. It was almost twice the distance of the triple sensor action on my Numa. However, that didn't limit my ability to play both actions alike.
On a well regulated acoustic grand it's very difficult to actually feel the escapement. My opinion is that is a worthless feature on digitals.
I tend to agree, but I can live with it if it's subtle enough like on the Roland PHA50 action.
Yes David, I heard the difference. I would have them both, but for me the Windows is too complicated for my internet skills. I have an RD-2000 and Nord. I can manage their downloads, but the Windows VSL is way over my head. Thank you for an excellent comparison. It would be nice if they had midi modules for lesser geeks.
So anal...you have waay too much time on your hands. Return it get Roland
she also does the silly walk ;-)
wow...its so interesting to see the inside of keyboard and see how it works...you are a brave soul for undertaking such a task
Yeah, if I messed it up I wouldn't be able to replace it anytime soon. Thankfully, it turned out ok.
Thanks for sharing!. As a tinkerer, I love this kind of videos. My own experience fixing other keybeds is similar about key grease, they use plenty of it and tends to go everywhere
I inquired with StudioLogic what type of grease they use and they never replied. I actually thought I might need to buy some. I didn't realize there would be plenty of extra to go around.
Wow! Gutsy move, and only 4 hours. I really trust you on keyboard actions, so happy to have you around to test these keyboards for the professional pianists. I have to play whatever stage piano is there, most are excellent, but some are not, I have to adapt to the bad ones. I may have to practice 4 hours to adapt to the bad ones. The good ones mechanically perfect and classically tuned and voiced I just walk up a play, within minutes I'm done. The real greats, like the Steinway Concert D, play themselves, all I have to do is place the emotion into them transforming the instrument into language. Living in a small apartment with lots of neighbors forces me to practice a digital at home, a blessing actually to be able to practice with headphones at 4:00am :). I now have 3 all with different actions which really helps so I am not so shocked when playing the next acoustic stage piano.
Thank you for sharing. Love your music. It's very peaceful.👍
The answer? Get a Roland!
The action is too heavy for my taste
Precisely. You'd have to shoot me to keep me away from the PHA-4. And i tried them all!
@@scarsstitches636 It's great when you find something you like. 👍
@@amitev Too heavy? So you are a keyboard player and not a piano player.
@@user-eo7vm6kp3g I am a piano player and yes, it is heavy.
👍
I have this piano. I just would really love to figure out how to record audio directly from the piano onto my device. In order to make high quality piano videos
Very helpful. 🤓🤘
Amen! Beautiful. 👍✝
very beautiful
Thanks
🤗I'm Very Proud To Have A Keyboardist Family🤗
Great playing, thanks for sharing!. Ivory 3 seems to be a good match for that Numa XPIANO GT
Ivory 3 has a nice dynamic range and is very balanced throughout the registers.
thank you for the this video....i myself had issues with the treble when playing the VSL....the synchron is installed in my Mac Mini and never satisfied with the treble sound so i bought an external speakers....it sound much better now....i think the tweeters will not able to replicate the authentic sound of the piano treble....i listened to an acoustic 280VC from UA-cam and the treble is much lighter and higher on the treble and less heavy on the bass compared to the Imperial
Good speakers can make a big difference. You might also consider good headphones. I prefer open back when I do have to use them for piano.
I love every single one of these synchron pianos They all sound good in their own way My top 3 are 280vc, d274 and cfx But i also love the f308 n imperial Thanks for the video❤
Hi your VSL Bösendorfer what software and how did you connect to the Bösendorfer VSL and with what speakers in this video please 🙏🏻 inform me. Also are you able to change the weight of the keys on the Roland I thought I saw yes somewhere. I’m getting mine soon as a second Piano 🎹 bit like your needs. Mines same.
Hello. I was using VSL Synchron Piano software and the internal digital audio interface of the Roland. I'm not aware of changing the weight on the PHA 4 action in the Roland.
Qualcuno sa dirmi se il suono che esce dalle casse di questo piano è migliore di un buon verticale acustico?
I haven't tried the numa, but I have a couple of keyboards and digital pianos with th PHA50. I also have the Korg RH3 keybed from the Kronos 88, and the motif xs 8 keybed. My daily driver is a kawai gl 40 (6ft grand) with the Millenium action. I like all of the keybeds that I play, with the pha50 and RH3 on the top of the list. I feel like the pha50 translates the best to the kawai piano action, which is on the heavier side. I'm just glad we have so many good options these days. Having said that, the motif seems to work best when it comes to controlling vsts. Personally, I prefer to play boards with built in piano sounds. It can be a pain to get a keyboard to work smoothly with vst libraries, especially because I expect the same level of playability I get from my piano, or digital piano. That's the reason I didn’t buy the vsl libraries, I just couldn't get the playability I get from my piano, kronos, or fantom. But that's a personal issue lol
Hi Mariano. You might want to consider trying the Ivory 3 Concert D. I'm really impressed with the balance and playability of it. I really think it's one of the best sampled pianos available today.
I simply love such videos, full of details with excellent presentation. Pure gold!
Thank you for your information on key action. It would be nice if you could do a comparison between the Kauai se11 and the Roland FP 90 x. To me action is very important. I grew up playing Oregon and then switch to piano. I started out on an old upright chickering with very heavy action but it was fast. Eventually Howard and from my understanding this is a Baldwin company brand. I much preferred the chickering. Also it sounded quite crisp and robust compared to the baby grin Howard. Anyway, much appreciated this segment on action.
I opened the wrong side and it made no difference. If you want acoustic piano emulation, get a Roland FP-30X or an FP-10 if you want to save a little and are willing to go with used. The FP-30X and the FP-10 have the same keyboard action and the same sound engine, but the FP-30X has some extra features.
I tried both of these, and to me, the tp400 feels way better. The feel of the keys themselves to the feel as it bottoms out and the weighting, all feels better. Somehow the Roland didn't feel like a high end keybed in comparison (subjective of course). I prefer the SL88 grand keybed (TP40 wood) to the Roland also. Funnily enough, they also had an old RD700 in the store, and I liked THAT better than the RD2000 I tried there too. I believe that has the old PHA-3 keybed... They don't make em like they used to springs to mind there.
